Frequently asked questions
Why do surgical fees vary between providers?
Fees vary according to factors such as the surgeon’s specialist training and experience, the hospital setting, anaesthetic, equipment and aftercare provided. When comparing quotations, it is worth checking exactly what is included and who will look after you if you have concerns after surgery.
What about surgery abroad?
Surgery abroad may be less expensive, but follow-up care, standards of regulation and access to redress can differ between countries and providers. The UK Government has highlighted concerns about medical tourism; further information is here and here.
Before choosing treatment abroad, it is particularly important to understand who will manage any complications once you return home. If complications occur, corrective surgery can be more complex and costly than the original procedure.
Should I have an assessment before booking surgery?
Yes. Surgery should only be planned after a proper clinical assessment by the surgeon who will perform your operation, taking into account your anatomy, medical history, expectations and individual risks.
Mr Lin will only recommend surgery if he believes it is in your best interests and, after discussing the benefits, limitations and risks, you are both comfortable proceeding.
What is the waiting time?
Mr Lin can usually see urgent private patients within a week, and perform any urgently required treatment or procedure within 1–3 weeks. This level of timely, specialist care is rarely possible within the NHS, where Mr Lin is the sole consultant in his field responsible for over 500,000 patients.
Do you use dissolving stitches?
Dissolvable stitches can be used that do not need to be removed. Mr Lin will advise on what stitches are best for your procedure and skin.
